001 / CONTEXT

The challenge

Elon Musk's proposed Hyperloop technology aims to revolutionize the way we travel. Moving at 700 mph, it could propel you from SF to LA in just 30 minutes.

We sought to imagine how this new travel experience could transform city life.

Our vision

"Pulse" is a Hyperloop service concept that presents the experience of mass transit in an alternative ideological system. It asks the question - how can we construct different societies through transport?

By day, Pulse transports people from city to city, encouraging an exchange of experiences and cultures. By night, Pulse transports food from farmlands along its journey, into major urban centers.Stations serve as cultural centers and food hubs, bringing people and food closer together.

002 / RESEARCH

Zooming in: Unpacking the traveler experience

We started off by learning as much as we could about Hyperloop technology and interviewing 15 people to build a better understanding of how travel impacts our lives. We started by asking:

  • What is the Hyperloop?
  • How do people experience travel? What does it mean to them?
  • What do people think of traveling by Hyperloop?

[Need quotes about traveler excitement + hesitation to use a new form of travel]

Crafting the ideal travel experience

We created a journey map to consider how people might think, feel, and act while using this new system

003 / OPPORTUNITY

What's in a name?

The name of our brand is indicative of a system that is driven by a dynamic flow. The system is a consistent, reliable, and powerful means of creating connections, bridging gaps between people, cities, cultures, and beyond.

It would be a system that supports the sharing of abundant resources of farmlands with major urban centers

HMW bridge the gap between people and their surrounding environment?

004 / PROTOTYPING

Bringing the vision to life

We created physical and digital prototypes to test how it would feel for travelers to experience the system touchpoints

005 / SERVICE CONCEPT

Pulse is a parallel system that transports people and food

The travel experience is supportive of travelers as well as the environment that it is moving through.

  • By day, Pulse transports people from city to city, encouraging an exchange of experiences and cultures

  • By night, Pulse transports food from farmlands along its journey, into major urban centers

Pulse stations serve as cultural centers and food hubs, bringing people and food closer together.
